Bend, Oregon (October 14, 2024) – Mazama Energy, Inc. (“Mazama Energy”) is pleased to announce that Ensign United States Drilling (California), Inc. has mobilized Rig T56 for the start of operations at Newberry in Deschutes County, Oregon.
Superhot Rock Enhanced Geothermal System Demonstration
Operations are set to begin mid-October 2024 and will continue through the end of February 2025. During this time, initial feasibility testing of several technologies will take place in one of the existing geothermal wells at Newberry. These operations represent the first step in a comprehensive program aimed at creating a geothermal reservoir in Superhot Rock (SHR). Superhot Rock refers to subsurface geological formations with temperatures exceeding 374°C (705°F). Further details on the operations schedule will follow.
